KOTA KINABALU: A local youth, who tried to smuggle out 5.7 tonnes of subsidised cooking oil, had his boat intercepted by coastguards metres away from Indonesian waters along Sungai Melayu in Sabah's east coast Tawau district.
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) deputy director for Tawau zone Commander Mohd Yusri Hussin said they arrested the 19-year-old youth who was trying to smuggle the cooking oil in a jongkong from Tawau.
