Police think man found floating in Pasai river was murdered

SIBU: Police have opened investigations into the case of a man whose body was found floating in Sungai Pasai eight days ago as they suspect the victim was murdered.

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said on Thursday (Sept 12) that a post-mortem had been done the previous night.

“From the post-mortem, it was found his left wrist was almost severed, caused by a sharp object, ” he said, adding that the case had been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

He said they could not identify the victim as he was found without personal documents by fishermen on Sept 4.

“We believe that the victim is a foreigner, ” ACP Ringgit said.

Local fishermen stumbled upon the body at noon on Sept 4.

Referring to another case in which a man's body was found on Sept 8 in the Rajang river without his left hand and leg, he said the post-mortem would be conducted next week.
