Commando’s wife expecting again

IPOH: Nour Shafinar Harun, the widow of Mejar Mohd Zahir Armaya, found out that she was pregnant two days after the tragic death of her husband.

She said her close friends did tell her that she looked different physically and some even pointed out that she could be pregnant.

“Even the counselling doctor who had met me earlier asked me the same question.

“After a urine test, it was confirmed that I am pregnant.

“I welcome this pregnancy with a strong heart but I am sad that he (Mejar Zahir) didn’t get to know about it sooner, ” she told reporters after receiving a visit from Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim at her parents’ house in Taman Perpaduan here yesterday.

Tuanku Zara spent about 30 minutes with Nour Shafinar and her family before handing her a personal donation.

“Tuanku Zara told me to be strong for myself, my children and the baby I am carrying, ” said Nour Shafinar.

Mejar Zahir died after he was believed to have been accidentally shot during a demonstration that was held in conjunction with the launching of the Malaysian Fifth Infantry Division and the 13th Malaysian Infantry Brigade exhibition at the Lok Kawi Camp in Kota Kinabalu on Sept 4.

He was with the commando unit based in the Sungai Udang army camp in Melaka.

Nour Shafinar also said she didn’t point fingers at anyone over the incident.

“I have made my peace and do not blame anyone. For me, it was an accident during training.

“They are all sharpshooters and they know what the risks are and we never know what is going to happen, ” she said.

It was reported that the investigation is leading towards negligence as the cause of the tragedy.

Sabah Commissioner of Police Comm Datuk Omar Mammah said the case was being investigated under Section 304a of the Penal Code and several individuals would be called in to assist in the investigations.
