Five-day remand for Syariah Court judge over khalwat bribery case

IPOH: A lower Syariah Court judge here has been remanded for five days in connection with an alleged bribery case.

The 37-year-old was arrested by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers at an eatery in Desa Chemor near here at 11.30pm on Tuesday (Sept 10).

It is alleged that he had received RM4,000 from a police inspector to settle a khalwat case.

Also arrested by MACC officers in connection with the case was a 30-year-old lance corporal for allegedly abetting the judge.

The lance corporal was arrested at 1.45am at the Bukit Merah police station.

The remand order until Sept 15 for both accused was issued by lower court assistant registrar N. Mageswari.

The judge was represented by counsel Dayang Nor Emilia Azman Shah, while the policeman was represented by Vivien Mitchiel Benedict.
