KUALA LUMPUR: The success of an infiltration operation carried out by a Special Branch officer and his platoon depended solely on their trust towards a communist cadre whom they had captured and turned informer for the police.
Datuk Paul Kiong, a retired superintendent of police who served 32 years in the Special Branch, recalled his time doing covert operations against the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) in the jungles of Perak from 1968 to 1989.
