Pandikar said the PKR president was the guest of honour at the Malaysia Day gathering organised by the United Sabah Bajau Organisation (Usbo) NGO in Kota Belud on Sept 17.
“I am not joining PKR. Salleh is also not joining. It’s a non-political event. We invited him for Usbo’s Malaysia Day gathering,” he said.
The veteran Sabah politician said they invited Anwar as he was a national leader and for him to share his thoughts on the country.
Pandikar said that as president of Usbo, he was organising the event and Usbo adviser Salleh invited Anwar.
Speculation has been rife in Sabah that Salleh, Pandikar and former state minister Datuk Amir Kahar Mustapha planned to join PKR. The party is supposedly trying to strengthen its Muslim bumiputra base in the state on the back of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s entry.
Salleh and Pandikar, who left Sabah Umno last December, were not taken in by Bersatu.
Salleh, when contacted, denied plans to join PKR and concurred that the Usbo event was not political.
