Abandoned newborn found alive behind surau

KUBANG PASU: A newborn boy, who is still alive, was found abandoned behind a surau at Kampung Meribut in Kodiang here Saturday (Sept 7).

The baby was discovered by a few villagers who arrived at the surau to perform the Maghrib prayers at about 7.15pm.

One of them alerted the Kodiang Police Station and an ambulance from the Kodiang Health Clinic was despatched to the surau.

Nurses at the health clinic later brought the baby boy to Jitra Hospital, about 25km from Kodiang, for further observation.

The baby was found swaddled in a batik sarong and is described as cute and cheerful, with fair skin.

When contacted, Kubang Pasu OCPD Supt Mohd Ismail confirmed the case and said he would provide further details as the information becomes available.

He said that at press time, the investigation officer was still at the Kodiang Health Clinic carrying out investigations.
