Teen stabs officer at drug rehab centre

SIBU: A teenager suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed an officer who was resting in the staff room at a drug rehabilitation centre.

Police are now hunting for the 19-year-old youth, who fled from the Sibu National Anti-Drug Agency after the incident on Sunday night.

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the youth was being treated for drug addiction at the agency’s Cure & Care Service Centre (CCSC) in Jalan Ulu Lanang.

“He had voluntarily applied to be rehabilitated at the Miri CCSC. But the Miri centre was already full, so he agreed to be placed at the Sibu centre for three months from July 8 to Oct 7, ” he said.

At about 8.30pm on Sunday, the suspect suddenly took out a knife and stabbed a 38-year-old officer in his chest at the staff room.

He fled after the attack with the victim’s motorcycle and wallet, which contained an identity card, an ATM card and some cash.

“The officer is being treated at the hospital, ” ACP Ringgit said.

The case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery and Section 397 of the same Code for robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt.
