PUNCAK ALAM: Armed men robbed a money changer at a supermarket here and fled with currencies worth at least RM120,000.

Kuala Selangor OCPD Supt Mohd Asri Abd Wahab said the incident occurred at around 11.22am on Wednesday (Aug 28).

"We received information about the robbery and sent a team to investigate," he said when contacted on Thursday (Aug 29).

He said based on investigations, four suspects, armed with machetes, with their faces covered by clothes, attacked the money-changing outlet.

"The company had just began operations about a month ago and only one worker was on duty when the incident occurred.

"One of the suspects broke the glass partition at the counter with his machete and gained entry into the outlet," he said.

Supt Mohd Asri added that the suspect demanded that the worker open the safe, then took all the currencies.

"It is estimated that they lost RM120,000 worth of currencies in the robbery.

"The worker was not hurt during the robbery," he said, adding that the suspects fled the scene in a silver Toyota Camry.

It was later found burnt in the Tok Muda Kapar Oil Palm estate near Jalan Kuala Selangor at 12.37pm on the same day.

Supt Mohd Asri urged anyone with information on the case to contact the Kuala Selangor police operations room at 03-3281 3853 or visit the nearest police station.
