Fire destroys motorcycle shop, but firemen salvage more than RM50k


JOHOR BARU: A motorcycle shop on Jalan Lumba Kuda here was destroyed after a fire broke out at the premises at about 10.52am on Wednesday (Aug 28).

Johor Baru Fire and Rescue Department deputy chief Suhaimi Jamal said a total of 26 firemen and four fire machines were deployed to the scene.

“The fire destroyed 85% of the shop and 13 motorcycles inside it.

“Also destroyed in the fire was a restaurant next door and one room that had been used for rental, ” he said in a statement.

He added that there were no casualties as the shop was empty during the incident.

“Our team also found some valuable item such as cash worth RM7,767, jewelry worth RM5,000 and two cheques worth RM40,000.

“All of the items have been handed over to the owner, ” Suhaimi said, adding that the cause of the fire and total lost was still under investigations.
