JOHOR BARU: A police mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) crashed and burned after its driver lost control of the vehicle during a chase at Jalan Nusa Damai Utama here on Saturday (Aug 24).

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Ismail Dollah said the incident occurred at about 3.30am when two police personnel were going after a car that was driving suspiciously in the area.

"The team approached the vehicle while turning on their police lights and siren. They also ordered the driver of the car to stop but the driver ignored the order and sped off towards Persiaran Nusa Damai," he said in a statement.

He added that the police driving the MPV then lost control of the vehicle after making a U-Turn and hitting a speed bump, saying that the vehicle then overturned.

"The overturned MPV then burst into flames, but the fire managed to be put out by the Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue Department. The two personnel only suffered minor injuries and received treatment at the Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI)," said Supt Ismail.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
