“I think this is an administrative decision, and we will abide (by the appointment),” said Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Steven Sim (pic).
“The appointment was made based on existing public service procedure, so I feel that there isn’t an issue whether the person is from a (particular) group, association or any parties, ” he added.
Sim was speaking during the Malaysia Sports Challenge (MySC) Hi-Tea 2019 at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil yesterday.
Pressed by reporters to respond to allegations of croniysm, Sim merely repeated his earlier remark: “I’ve already answered your question.”
Syed Saddiq has been the focus of criticism after a letter by the National Sports Council detailing the appointment of 13 new state sports development coordinators was posted by Negri Sembilan Youth Council president Mohd Fairos Rusli on Facebok.
Parti Ikatan Malaysia’s Youth wing alleged that the 13 appointments were made by the Youth and Sports Minister in an effort to garner grassroots support as the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia polls drew closer.
Bersatu’s first party polls since its formation in 2016 may take place later this year.
