KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission never interrogated Sarawak Report editor Claire Rewcastle-Brown over an article titled “Najib Razak’s Personal Accounts Linked To 1MDB Money Trail Malaysia Exclusive”, the High Court heard.

Investigating officer Rosli Husain testified he never met or conducted an investigation on Rewcastle-Brown over the article.

“I also did not investigate how she came about producing that article, ” he said in court yesterday.

Rosli, who was testifying in the corruption trial of Datuk Seri Najib Razak, however said that the MACC investigation was conducted based on information from the Internet through the article dated July 2,2015, on the Sarawak Report website.

The witness was under cross-examination by Najib’s lawyer Harvinderjit Singh here.

Harvinderjit asked Rosli if any investigation was done on how Rewcastle-Brown could have published the article, to which Rosli replied: “I don’t know. I did not investigate.”

Rosli said the investigation was done based on a report from MACC’s forensic accounting division assistant commissioner Prem Raj dated July 6,2015.

He denied that an article from the Wall Street Journal was the reason the commission opened its investigation.

“The article that was given to me was from the Sarawak Report and not the Wall Street Journal.

“I have never seen nor shown that article, ” he said.

Rosli said after the report was received, an investigation paper was opened to investigate the offence under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

He said the investigation paper (IP) was distributed to the prosecutor’s office on Dec 31,2015 and redistributed to the same officer on June 12 last year.

Najib is facing seven charges, of which three are for criminal breach of trust, one for abuse of power and three for money laundering involving SRC International Sdn Bhd funds totalling RM42mil.

The hearing continues tomorrow before Justice Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali.
