PETALING JAYA: A 28-year-old storekeeper has been detained in connection with the death threat issued against lawyer Syahredzan Johan on Facebook.

Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Roslan Bek Ahmad said the man, who also works as a security guard, was detained at an apartment in Bandar Sri Damansara at 2am yesterday.

“He has been remanded until Tuesday.

“We are investigating the matter under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, ” he said when contacted.

Syahredzan meanwhile tweeted his appreciation towards the police for their fast action.

“I was informed that the suspect who threatened me has been arrested and remanded.

“Thank you police for their fast and professional actions, ” he tweeted.

Syahredzan received a death threat on Wednesday on social media after he suggested controversial preacher Zakir Naik’s permanent resident status be rescinded.

The political secretary to Iskandar Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang tweeted that the death threat was posted on Facebook and he lodged a police report on Thursday.
