KUALA LUMPUR: While coral reefs in Malaysia are resilient to threats, measures still need to be taken to arrest their further deterioration, said environmental NGO Reef Check Malaysia.
Its general manager Julian Hyde said data on live coral coverage (LCC) collected in the past 12 years show that corals are able to recover fairly quickly from disasters, such as a bleaching event in 2010, and other reef disturbances which caused a decline between 2016 and 2018.
