PUTRAJAYA: Umno and Barisan Nasional have filed a suit against three of its former lawmakers who have since defected to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, citing breach of trust, breach of contract, unjust enrichment and legitimate expectations.
The suit against Jeli MP Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and Tanah Merah MP Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz was filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Tuesday (Aug 13).
The suit was filed by legal firm Apandi Ali & Co on behalf of the plaintiffs.
The legal firm confirmed that it had filed the suit on behalf of Umno and Barisan.
Mustapa, Hamzah and Ikmal Hisham won their parliamentary seats in the 14th General Election on Barisan tickets and were candidates from Umno.
"The action brought by Umno and BN is for breach of contract, unjust enrichment, legitimate expectations and breach of trust, " said the firm.
The suit was brought by Umno executive secretary Datuk Sumali Reduan on behalf of the party and Barisan.
Mustapa left Umno in 2018 while Hamzah and Ikmal Hisham left early this year.
Mustapa and Hamzah were both Cabinet ministers in the previous administration having served as the International Trade and Industry Minister and Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister respectively.
