Suspect who tried to rob food delivery rider to be charged Aug 15


PETALING JAYA: One of the two suspects who attempted to rob a food delivery rider in front of Phileo Damansara 2 here is expected to charged on Thursday (Aug 15).

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din said the 33-year-old suspect, who was arrested last Saturday (Aug 10), will be charged under Section 393 of the Penal Code for attempted robbery and Section 324 of the same code for causing hurt.

“We have referred the matter to the deputy public prosecutor and the DPP has instructed the suspect be charged.

“We are still tracking down the suspect's accomplice, ” he said when contacted.

The suspect was arrested after he dropped a mobile phone at the scene of the crime.

He was picked up by the district’s Serious Crimes Unit.

“Our personnel raided an apartment at Jalan Kuang Bertam 9, Taman Kepong, and arrested the suspect.

“Investigations revealed the suspect has a prior record for theft and receiving stolen property, ” said ACP Mohd Zani.

A Yamaha motorcycle and its keys, a helmet and a motorcycle fork lock were also seized, he added.

“Investigations revealed the two suspects met while they were incarcerated at Kajang Prison in 2010, ” he said.

A video of the botched incident has since gone viral on social media.

The one-minute 37-second video shows the delivery rider pulling into the entrance of the area followed by the two suspects on another motorcycle.

The victim gets off his motorcycle and appears to talk to the two suspects before the pillion rider hits him on the back of the head and threatens to hit him again with an unidentified object.

Moments later, the other suspect charges at the food delivery rider and pulls him away from his motorcycle, before attempting to ride off with the victim’s motorcycle.

The victim then pounces on the suspect as he tries to ride away, and a struggle ensues between the three.

The victim puts up a protracted struggle, even when he is seen wrestled to the ground, forcing the suspects to flee the scene empty-handed.
