KOTA KINABALU: Some 985 former members of Umno officially joined PKR in a ceremony in Tuaran district on Sunday (Aug 4).

Sabah PKR chief Datuk Christina Liew received the membership forms from PKR Tuaran branch head Dausil Kundayong and organising chairman Abdul Ali Hj Madtair during the event at Kampung Kindu, which also saw the formation of sub-branches of Tuaran.

The new members are being absorbed into the 28 sub-branches of Tuaran PKR branch.

Welcoming the new party members, Liew in a statement said the continuing formation of sub-branches is one of the platforms to increase membership in Tuaran branch.

"The fact that you choose PKR and support its political struggle is a clear indication that the party is still strong and relevant in the country.

"It has the trust of the Malaysians to continue leading the nation and safeguarding the people's rights and interests," she told the new members.

Among those who witnessed the ceremony were political secretary to Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Romli Ishak, and PKR State Leadership Council (MPN) organising secretary Sazalye Donol Abdullah.

Meanwhile, Romli commended Liew for leading the party MPN here in signing the pledge of loyalty and full support for party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
