PETALING JAYA: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic) has set three conditions for cooperation with Pakatan Harapan after representatives of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman, allegedly went to see him.
“Dr Mahathir’s men approached me recently and I gave them three conditions as the party’s stand if we were to cooperate.
“Firstly, Umno will never leave PAS, which has become a political party friend and, secondly, stop asking Umno people to join Bersatu.
“Lastly, don’t de-register Umno, ” Ahmad Zahid was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying at an event with Alor Setar Umno on Saturday.
In his speech, Ahmad Zahid also said Umno members lacked showing loyalty to leaders compared to PAS, which held fast to the principle of being faithful to leaders.
“In PAS there is faithfulness but Umno lacks it.
“Without loyalty towards leaders, when will we succeed in retaking the government?
“We will have political cooperation with PAS, we don’t want PAS to run when it sees us disunited because, of course, it will want to find a family that is united by heart, ” said Ahmad Zahid.
He also explained why he returned to lead the party on June 30 after taking garden leave since December last year.
“I didn’t say I wanted to quit, I only said I gave my trust to my deputy Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan to take on the duties as party president.
“It was my right to come back because I was chosen democratically in the party elections, ” he said.
