JOHOR BARU: An online trader lost two cellphones worth RM6,000 after a customer, on the pretext of taking money from her car, drove off with the devices.
There were three other accomplices in her car during the incident on Thursday.
Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the trader, aged 27, received a text message from a woman, who showed interest to buy two Samsung S10 mobile phones from him.
“Both seller and buyer agreed with the price of RM3,000 per unit.
“Later in the evening, the trader received another text message, asking him to meet her at a private hospital in Taman Bukit Indah,” he said in a statement.
ACP Dzulkhairi said the trader, who was accompanied by his brother, then handed the phones to the woman for inspection.
He said the woman had parked her car a distance away from the hospital’s main entrance.
“On the pretext of taking money to pay for the devices, she walked back to her car with the phones. The trader asked his brother to follow her to the car but when she got in, she quickly sped off,” he said.
ACP Dzulkhairi said the brother told police that he saw three other men in the car – a Toyota Corolla.
“The brothers could not chase after them as their car was parked inside the hospital compound,” he said.
