PETALING JAYA: Local designer Andrew Ngo wants to spread the message of unity and bring people, especially youth, together, through his #AnakAnakMalaysia T-shirt.
The founder of local brands IDOTSHIRT and Stoned & Co, whose target market is mostly the youth, is determined to inspire Malaysians with this year’s #AnakAnakMalaysia 2019 theme #BetterMeBetterMalaysia.
“There is too much hatred around us now and too many complaints and perceptions, so I hope the youth will be the ones coming together and changing the society in future.
“I always believe that if you want change to happen then the change has to start with you and by changing ourselves, it is the best way towards a better Malaysia,” he said.
Through the design of this T-shirt, his team is out to show that Malaysia is rich in culture and diversity.
They also want to prove that local brands are as good as international labels.
The 29-year-old, who has a strong presence on social media, said his team of designers spent almost a year coming up with more than 10 design drafts before being satisfied with the final selection.
“During the design process, we decided to bring all the iconic Malaysian elements together with the #AnakAnakMalaysia theme, and at the same time, incorporate Eco World Development Group (EcoWorld) and Star Media Group into it,” said Ngo.
The T-shirt features the wau, Malayan tiger, hibiscus, traditional instruments, Petronas Twin Towers and Menara KL.
The main colour scheme of the images on the white T-shirt comprises shades of blue, red and yellow, which represent the Jalur Gemilang and also EcoWorld and Star Media Group’s corporate colours.
“If you look at the T-shirt, you will notice that it does not really highlight corporate logos or branding but instead, gives a more casual vibe as we want people to wear it even after the walk is over,” he said.
For the first time, Ngo will participate in the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk and is looking forward to it.
“I was not able to make it for the walk over the past two years because I was in China for a trade show and as I’ll be around this year, I’m really excited to be walking and seeing everyone in the shirt we designed,” he said.
Ngo added that he is thrilled to be working with EcoWorld and Star Media Group this year as the partnership is also in line with his team’s own annual campaign titled “I Do Love Malaysia”.
“There is too much happening around us right now, especially with social media and the Internet, false news often goes viral.
“So on the day of the walk, I hope everyone will come together as Malaysians and just hang out.
“The walk’s theme #BetterMeBetterMalaysia goes with our brand’s annual campaign,” he added.
The #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk is a collaboration between property developer Eco World Development Group Bhd and Star Media Group.
The main sponsors for the event are Panasonic (Silver Sponsor) and DRB-HICOM (Car Sponsor).
