My loyalty has its limitations, says Azmin

SHAH ALAM: As he pledged his loyalty to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali warned those trying to bring him down that his loyalty has a limit.

However, he insisted that he was not referring to anyone in particular.

He was speaking to the media at the gathering of solidarity at Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari’s official residence here last night.

Azmin also said that he will work together with PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who has extended an olive branch to him.

“Yes (I will work together with Anwar). He is president and I am the deputy.

“Don’t provoke the president and deputy president.

“We have been together for many decades,” he said.

Azmin said he held the thanksgiving gathering to thank those who had supported him while he was hit by “slander for five weeks”.

“Can’t I even do that?” he said when asked about the gathering.

He said in his speech earlier that his loyalty (to anyone) “has a limit for I am loyal to truth and justice.

“I have never betrayed friendship and struggle. But when there is someone who betrays the struggle of the people, I will not back down.

“Five weeks ... my family and I have been slandered. But I know from feedback the people support me.

“Doctors and police questioned me and I gave my cooperation because I am innocent.

“The IGP Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador himself has verified there were invisible hands to bring me down. You may plan with the big towkays but God disposes,” he said.

Azmin also pledged loyalty to Dr Mahathir, whom he said advised him to concentrate on improving the economy.

Amirudin, who is also Selangor PKR chief, said the event was funded and organised by Azmin’s team and he merely provided the venue.

“It is normal to use my official residence for religious activities.

“If Anwar wants to hold a kenduri, I will also offer the venue,” he said

Meanwhile at Anwar’s house in Kuala Lumpur, a prayer session was also being held but the PKR chief said it was a regular religious event.
