Weaknesses inherited from BN state govt, says Sabah Agriculture Minister after 2018 audit report goes viral

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Junz Wong (pic) says he is aware of his ministry's shortcomings after a screen capture of the ministry's 2018 national audit report went viral.

He claimed that the weaknesses were inherited from the previous administration.

The photo of the financial performance chart of ministries and agencies in Sabah that went viral showed his ministry at the bottom of the list and highlighted in red as unsatisfactory at 44.51%.

"This was inherited from the past administration. I am not trying to give excuses, but this is a fact. I am grateful that the auditors have detailed these weaknesses, as this would allow me to take the necessary steps to improve," he said in a statement on Friday (July 19).

He said that the audit was done in October 2018, which was about four months after the Parti Warisan Sabah-led state government took over the state administration.

Wong said after being given the portfolio, remedial steps to strengthen the ministry were done in stages as certain decisions by the previous administration did not follow proper procedures.
