IPOH: SOBA LAB will be making its next stop at M Roof Hotel & Residences here on July 24.
The series of free capacity building workshops, themed Business Growth Masterclass, is aimed at encouraging continuous learning and networking among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to grow their businesses for the future.
It is held in conjunction with The Star Outstanding Business Awards (SOBA).
During the full-day workshop, entrepreneurs seeking practical advice and pointers on business will be able to hear from notable business figures such as MyNews Holdings Bhd founder and chief executive officer Dang Tai Luk and RE2 International Corporation Sdn Bhd CEO Catherine Teh.
Dang, the Silver Award winner for Entrepreneur of the Year at SOBA 2011, will share how he overcame various challenges to bring MyNews to its current state.
The convenience store chain operator started in 1997 with a single traditional newsstand in 1 Utama shopping centre in Petaling Jaya. Today, it has nearly 500 outlets nationwide.
Dang has been involved in MyNews’ transformation throughout the years. A recent initiative he spearheaded is the new ready-to-eat (RTE) food and bakery goods in its Klang Valley stores.
Known for the RE2 International Computer School, which now has 10 centres, RE2 International Corporation won the Gold Award for the Best Use of Technology (up to RM25mil turnover) in SOBA 2018.
Teh started as a Microsoft certified trainer and in 2002, founded the ICT school for students aged five to 18.
Over the course of her career, she has helped hone the school into a platform where students can learn to excel in information technology.
In a sharing session, she will speak about her entrepreneurial journey in building, managing and growing the ICT school.
Admission is free, but seats are limited, so those interested are encouraged to register at bit.ly/SOBALABIPOH19 to secure a seat.
A SOBA helpdesk will also be available at every location for those keen to find out more about the awards.
In addition, each SOBA LAB will feature booths from SOBA sponsors, where attendees can learn more about the solutions, products and services they offer.
This year’s SOBA is now open for submission for all locally incorporated enterprises that are not part of a multinational or listed group with foreign equity not exceeding 50%.
