Man found drowned after falling off ferry

GEORGE TOWN: The body of a man, believed to have fallen off a ferry, has been found. 

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Che Zaimani Che Awang said the man was travelling on a ferry that was departing from Penang island to Butterworth before the incident on Wednesday (July 17). 

The crew on the ferry immediately contacted the authorities when they found out that he had fallen off the vessel.

“The search and rescue team brought the man's body to Seberang Jaya Hospital for a post-mortem. 

“The post-mortem revealed that the man died of drowning, and there were no other injuries on his body," he said.

There is no information about the victim yet as he did not carry any identification with him. 

“His fingerprints will be taken for further investigation,” ACP Zaimani said in a statement on Thursday (July 18).
