SHAH ALAM (Bernama): The Coroner's Court here set July 24 to mention an application by the family of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim (pic) to initiate committal proceedings against Attorney General Tommy Thomas for contempt in the inquest into the fireman's death.
Coroner Rofiah Mohamad fixed the date following a request by lawyer Kamaruzaman A Wahab, who is representing Muhammad Adib's family.
Rofiah said she was not able to initiate proceedings today as the application was still being processed.
"I have yet to study the application and I set July 24 for mention," she said on the 41st day of the inquest into Muhammad Adib's death Wednesday (July 17).
Muhammad Adib's father, Mohd Kassim Abdul Hamid, 64, filed the application through Messrs Mohd Zubir Embong & Associates yesterday.
He claimed that the AG had committed contempt through an affidavit that was filed by the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) on April 3.
He said in the affidavit, Thomas stated that Muhammad Adib's death was not caused by him being beaten, ahead of the Coroner's Court ruling on the matter.
Muhammad Adib, 24, who was a member of the emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) at the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue station, was seriously injured in a riot at Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, USJ25, on Nov 27, 2018.
He passed away on Dec 17, after 21 days at the National Heart Institute. - Bernama
