KUALA LUMPUR: The appointment of Datuk Seri Najib Razak as the Barisan Nasional advisor will not affect the political cooperation between PAS and Umno, says Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (pic).
The PAS deputy president said that Najib's appointment was by Barisan and not Umno
"Najib's appointment is for Barisan and as for PAS, we will only deal with Umno as a party and not with the individual.
"His appointment will not have any effect on our cooperation," he told reporters in Parliament lobby on Monday (July 15).
On July 9, Barisan secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor announced Najib's appointment as advisor for Barisan after a meeting between the coalition's chiefs.
On June 22, at the 65th PAS Muktamar (general assembly), a motion was passed by the Islamist party to seal a political agreement with Umno.
The motion, tabled by Dewan Ulama Information chief Mohd Asri Mat Daud, called for PAS to forge close ties with Umno.
PAS had formerly acknowledged that it was cooperating with Umno based on “taawun” (cooperation for the benefit of Islam).
The motion, which was unanimously passed, wants PAS to forged stronger ties based on “tahaluf siyasi” (political cooperation).
PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said the party’s Syura Council had in principle approved the party's political cooperation with Umno.
