Health Minister: No cause for concern after 11 Orang Asli warded with malaria in Kuala Lipis

PUTRAJAYA: There is no cause for concern on malaria outbreaks despite reports that several Orang Asli from Pos Lenjang in Kuala Lipis, Pahang had contracted the mosquito-borne disease, says the Health Minister.

Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad (pic) said the type of malaria that the Orang Ali contracted was Plasmodium vivax malaria, which is a mild type and not life-threatening.

"We have just been alerted about this and the Health Ministry director-general will issue a statement on Monday (July 15)," he told reporters.

The minister said he was informed that 11 Orang Asli were warded with malaria.

It was earlier reported that nine Orang Asli suspected of having Plasmodium vivax malaria at Pos Lenjang have been hospitalised.
