Pedal power: Dr M, Syed Saddiq cycle 11km at Sepang circuit (updated)

 PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad took to the outdoors on a Sunday morning (July 14) by "racing" around the Sepang International Circuit with the Youth and Sports Minister.

But instead of Formula One cars, they went pedalling on their bicycles for some fun and healthy recreational activity.

Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was seen posting a selfie of their ride around the circuit on Instagram.

"Cycled 11km with @chedetofficial (Dr Mahathir's Instagram handle) at the Sepang International Circuit. Truly impressive," he said on his Instagram account on Sunday (July 14).

In the accompanying photo, Dr Mahathir can be seen riding a tandem bicycle.

It is not known who is the lead rider on the bicycle.

Dr Mahathir recently turned 94 on July 10.

The premier in an interview once said that his secret to his boundless energy was "less sleep and staying active".

Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir on his Twitter account, also shared his cycling experience around the circuit. 

"Went cycling at the Sepang International Circuit this morning. As one ages, time must be spent exercising the muscles so that the brain can function at its best," he said. 

Dr Mahathir also posted few pictures of his morning cycle, with one picture clearly showing him enjoying the ride with his hands up in the air.
