SIBU: There are 541 government departments and agencies nationwide without taska or childcare centres, and their heads have been told to prioritise the matter.
Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Hannah Yeoh said these departments and agencies should set aside funds from their budget to open such centres.
“They should not wait for us for the grant to start taska.
“Our grant is just to help kick-start the opening of a taska, especially at hospitals,” she said when launching the Sibu Hospital taska yesterday.
Yeoh said concerted efforts must be stepped up as the government had made it compulsory for all its workplaces to have taska by January.
She said that RM10mil was allocated in the 2019 budget for the purpose and 66 of the 101 applications were approved.
“Nineteen taska are in government hospitals and 18 in police stations, fire stations and Immigration offices,” she said.
On the Sibu Hospital taska, Yeoh said it was dedicated to five-month-old Adam Raykal Mohd Sufi Naeif, who was found dead in his babysitter’s refrigerator on July 3 last year.
The parent of the boy had reported him missing and police found the baby’s body in the fridge of his babysitter’s house in Kampung Nakhoda.
