KUALA LUMPUR: Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali agrees that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad should not be rushed into handing over the premiership to his successor.

Azmin says he agrees with the stand taken by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir that the sitting premier should be given enough time to rectify national economic woes.

"Agree," he said when asked to comment on Mukhriz's comment.

Azmin said this after opening the Aspire 500 graduate job fair at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on Saturday (July 13).

Mukhriz was quoted in Nikkei Asian Review as saying that the timeframe for leadership transition was not fixed at two years as claimed by certain parties.

Mukhriz also insisted that there were no written or verbal agreement on the alleged timeframe for leadership transition.
