PETALING JAYA: Paul Yong, the Perak state executive councillor alleged to have sexually assaulted his Indonesian maid, should go on leave or be suspended by the Perak Mentri Besar pending a full investigation, says Wanita MCA.
Its chairperson Datuk Heng Seai Kie said Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu should suspend the accused, adding that even Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming said that it was a “very serious allegation”.
According to Heng, this was to ensure the interest of the public as well as the independence and impartiality of the police and the Attorney General’s Chambers.
“The police must be praised for executing their duties without fear or favour by swiftly arresting the accused.
“After all, this is a serious crime.
“In particular, the suspect is a second-term elected representative who has been appointed as a state executive councillor,” she said in a statement Thursday (July 11).
Heng said she also hoped that the police would uncover the truth soon.
Perak Police chief Comm Datuk Razarudin Husain has confirmed that the assemblyman was arrested on Tuesday (July 9) to assist in investigations and released on the same day.
Yong issued a press statement on Tuesday (July 9) denying the allegation, saying he was innocent.
He also said he would give his full cooperation to the police in their investigation.
