PAPAR: A nonagenarian was found dead inside his jeep in a ravine along Jalan Kg Dagalau - Babagon here on Tuesday (July 9).
It is believed that Lim Khin Choon @ Lim Chin Choon, 91, had been dead for a few days before his decomposing body was discovered at about 3.10pm by his best friend who wanted to visit him.
Papar police chief Deputy Supt Batholomew Ak Umpit said initial investigations showed that Lim was reversing his jeep from its parking spot when the vehicle overshot and plunged 20m into the ravine.
"We believe he was trapped in the jeep, and sustained serious injuries to his head and body.
"He died at the scene," he explained.
DSP Batholomew said Lim had a valid driving license and was not driving under the influence of alcohol when the accident happened.
He added that the roads near the accident scene, located some 20 minutes from Papar town, were narrow.
"His best friend told the police that the deceased had been living alone in his house located far from other neighbours.
"His children also lived far away and visited him weekly.
"When his friend came to visit him, he saw the vehicle in the ravine and noticed a stench coming from the site," DSP Batholomew elaborated.
Lim's body was retrieved from the scene and sent to Hospital Papar for a post-mortem. Police have reached out to his next of kin.
The case is investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
