IPOH: Police have taken statements from a 23-year-old Indonesian maid as well as the state executive councillor implicated in a rape case.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Razarudin Husain said the case was being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
He said the suspect was arrested on Tuesday (July 9) and was released on police bail the same day after he had his statement recorded.
“The police received a report on Monday from the woman who alleged that her employer raped her in his house in Meru Raya, near here.
“The woman was sent to a hospital for a medical check-up, and she is now being kept in a safe place until the investigations papers are referred to Bukit Aman and the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s office,” he said in a statement Wednesday (July 10).
Comm Razarudin said a forensic team was also dispatched to the site and had collected evidence for analysis.
He said statements from several witnesses were also recorded, including from the family members of the executive councillor.
The assemblyman, Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Paul Yong Choo Kiong, had denied the allegations in a press statement on Tuesday (July 9).
He said that he would let the police investigate and he will cooperate fully.
