Penang cops cripple drug syndicate, arrest eight, seize RM127k of heroin

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang north-east anti-narcotics department crippled a drug trafficking syndicate with the seizure of heroin worth RM126,600 and the arrest of eight suspects in Jelutong.

George Town deputy OCPD Supt V. Saravanan said police conducted three raids on July 4 and 5 in several areas in Jelutong and uncovered an illegal drug-processing lab in an apartment.

"We also seized several vehicles and drug-processing equipment worth RM128,861," said Supt Saravanan at a press conference at the George Town district police station on Tuesday (July 9).

He said the amount of drugs could be used by 65,000 addicts. All the suspects are remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for seven days until July 11.
