Nine arrested, equipment confiscated over illegal online gambling

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested nine people and confiscated a variety of devices believed to have been used for illegal online gambling.

City CID Chief Senior Asst Comm Rusdi Md Isa said they raided a luxury house in Kuchai Lama at around 3.55pm on Monday.

He said the four-storey house was used as a call centre catering to China nationals and locals. 

"The syndicate rented the luxury house to avoid police detection.

"During the raid, we arrested nine men aged between 20 and 40 and seized 18 computer monitors, nine computer proccessing units, 28 mobile phones and 30 external transfer devices, as well as a modem and router," he said on Monday (July 8).

He said the suspects were then brought to the Brickfields police headquarters for further action.
 
"We have classified the case under Section 4(1)(c) and (d) of the Betting Act 1953.

"Anyone with information on similar cases should come forward immediately," he said, urging those with information to contact the police hotline at 03-2115 9999.
