S'gor deputy state secretary reported to be next Ipoh mayor

IPOH: Selangor state Economic Planning Unit director Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim is reported to be the next Ipoh Datuk Bandar.

In a report by SelangorKini, Selangor state secretary Datuk Mohd Amin Ahmad Ahya was quoted as saying that Ahmad Suaidi, who is also the state deputy secretary, has been promoted.

Mohd Amin Ahmad also said that Ahmad Suaidi's promotion as Ipoh mayor was a loss to the state.

"Because he was promoted, we cannot stop him for his career's sake.

"He has done well in his duty, including the implementation of the Peduli Rakyat initiative under Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari," he said.

When contacted, Perak Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Yong Choo Kiong was non-committal.

"I can't deny the news, but what I can say is, a mayor will be officially appointed in two weeks' time," he said.

The vacancy came about after former mayor Datuk Zamri Man was said to have been absent from work for months.

Subsequently, the PSD said his tenure as Datuk Bandar ended on Feb 17 due to health reasons.

Zamri became mayor in 2015.
