SEREMBAN: The decision by the state government to hold an election at the Paroi Chinese new village tomorrow to elect a new village chief is an experiment to see if the move is workable.
State Urban Wellbeing, Housing, Local Government and New Villages Committee chairman Teo Kok Seong said the state Pakatan Harapan government now wanted to delegate this power to the residents.
“We have been looking for a kampung or a new village for some time to carry out such an experiment.
“Since the Paroi Chinese new village head resigned two months ago, we decided to use this as a test to gauge the response from the people,” he said at his office.
Teo said 821 voters would be able to cast their votes from 9am to 3pm tomorrow.
