SEREMBAN: A 61-year-old lorry driver was charged with killing an elderly man over a relationship.
Prior to the murder, both men were said to be trying to woo the same woman, aged 51.
No plea was recorded when an interpreter read out the charge to Chong Leong Mok before magistrate Mahyun Yusof yesterday.
Chong was said to have killed Tan Soy Seng, 70, in a jungle along the 41st kilometre of Jalan Kuala Klawang near here between 7.30pm and 11.30pm on May 14.
He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
Mahyun fixed Aug 15 for mention at the Jelebu magistrate’s court.
The accused was taken to prison as murder is a non-bailable offence.
M. Jiwan Kaur prosecuted while Chong, a divorcee, was unrepresented.
On June 24, a police party led by Asst Supt G. Baldev Singh arrested him in Tangkak, Johor.
