KUALA LUMPUR: Police have seized almost half a million ringgit worth of illicit cigarettes following a crackdown on a syndicate in Johor.
Federal Internal Security and Public Order director Comm Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said his personnel launched a special operation on Sunday (June 30).
"We arrested three men aged between 22 and 46 in Skudai. One of them has a prior record for a Customs Act violation.
"We also seized 3,000 cartons which were being transported in a van and two sedan cars," he said in a statement Monday (July 1).
He said the cigarettes were worth at least RM492,000 while the vehicles seized were worth RM115,000.
"The three suspects have been remanded at the Iskandar Putri police headquarters for three days.
"We have classified the case under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 for being in possession of illicit cigarettes," he said
