Cops nab four burglary suspects after early morning car chase

KAJANG: A car chase ensued between the police and suspected burglars early Monday (July 1) after the suspects ignored orders to stop their car.

District OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said a police mobile patrol unit was on patrol in the Sungai Long area when they spotted a car being driven in a suspicious manner.

“The police team flashed their lights to signal them to stop at the side of the road, but the car sped off.

“Another patrol car was called in to assist in the chase,” he said at a press conference at the district police headquarters.

ACP Ahmad Dzaffir said the chase ended near Ecohill Semenyih.

“One of the police cars in pursuit was hit by the suspect’s vehicle. But that caused the driver to lose control of the car, which led to it crashing,” he said.

Two male and two female suspects were arrested. An air gun as well as a sword were found in the vehicle.

All four also tested positive for methamphetamine, with one of the male suspects having a prior record for a drug-related offence.

In an unrelated incident, members of the public performed a citizens' arrest on two men masquerading as policemen.

It is believed that the duo were using the guise as a way to rob unsuspecting victims.

ACP Ahmad Dzaffir said the incident occurred on Sunday (June 30) in the Bandar Tasik Kesuma area.

“When residents asked the two suspects to produce their police identification, they began acting suspiciously. The two tried to run away but were successfully apprehended by residents there.

“Police investigations showed both suspects have prior drug-related offences. The case is being investigated for impersonating a policeman and gang robbery,” he said.
