IPOH: The Perak government is aiming to have the Royal Belum rainforest declared as a Unesco heritage site by 2021.
State Tourism committee chairman Tan Kar Hing said the first draft for the dossier on the rainforest has been prepared by the National Heritage Department.
"There are still a few steps to go before we submit the dossier to Unesco to be reviewed.
"Unesco will then call for a panel of committee members to review and examine the matter before making a declaration," he told a press conference at the state secretarial building in here on Thursday (June 27).
If Royal Belum makes the cut, it will be the second heritage site recognised by Unesco after Lenggong Valley.
