Elderly woman murdered in Penang, body found with hands and feet tied

BUTTERWORTH: A 71-year old woman has been found dead in her house, with her hands and legs tied after what is believed to be a robbery.

North Seberang Prai OCPD ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said police arrived at the woman's double-storey house in Taman Merbau Indah in Sungai Dua after alerted of the discovery at 4.37pm on Thursday (June 27).

"The woman was found with her hands and legs were tied upstairs and there were bloodstains on both levels of the house.

"She has been living alone here for the past three years and we believe she was robbed before she was murdered.

"There were also signs of a struggle and injuries on her hip and back," said ACP Noorzainy at the scene.

He said the actual cause of death is still under investigation and the case has been classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The woman was last seen at 4pm on Wednesday and police believe she had been dead for five to six hours before her body was discovered.
