MELAKA: Five police personnel, including an inspector, have been remanded for seeking and receiving RM6,200 from a suspect.
Magistrate Muhammad Nazrin Ali ordered the policemen, aged between 25 and 50, to be remanded for four days.
The five from Jasin police headquarters’ narcotic department were detained between 5pm and 11pm on Monday by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
They had allegedly solicited and taken the money as an inducement not to act against a 30-year-old man who was found in possession of air ketum and illicit cigarettes at Taman Wira at Bemban in Jasin in March.
Melaka MACC director Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg confirmed the arrest.
