BUTTERWORTH: The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) has initiated emergency response repair works after a major pipe burst at the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant, the island's largest facility.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said this was not a scheduled water supply interruption.
"PBAPP personnel are carrying out emergency response repair works on site.
"Updates and reports on the repairs will be posted accordingly," he said in a statement issued on Monday (June 24).
Earlier in the day at 5.30pm, a 1,100mm clear water pipe burst at the plant.
"This mishap has caused the plant's output to drop by 21.5% (about 230 million litres per day).
"It will cause low water pressure or unscheduled water supply interruption in certain areas that will potentially affect about 200,000 registered water consumers in central Seberang Prai, south Seberang Prai and the southern areas of Penang Island," he said.
