KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, attended the ceremony of "menempah bidan” for their daughter Tengku Puteri Iman Afzan at Istana Negara here.
"It is a tradition when you are pregnant with your first child," said Tengku Puteri Iman.
"Tradition is very important in our family. It should be remembered and not to forget something special in our culture,” she said.
The ceremony was also attended by the Ahli Jumaah Pemangku Raja Pahang Tengku Puteri Seri Kemala Pahang Tengku Hajah Datuk Aishah Sultan Ahmad Shah and members of the royal household.
The ceremony began with a "marhaban" performance by the Al-Zahraa Angkatan Tentera Malaysia followed by recitation of "Yasin", "tahlil" and "berzanji".
Tengku Puteri Iman then attended the "melenggang perut” ceremony.
Sultan Abdullah and Tuanku Tunku Azizah then attended the pouring of rose water ceremony, followed by the Ahli Jumaah Pemangku Raja Pahang Tengku Puteri Seri Kemala Pahang Tengku Hajah Datuk Aishah Sultan Ahmad Shah and members of the royal household.
Asked on the ceremonies, Tengku Puteri Iman said they should not be forgotten and should be continued by the present generation to preserve the traditions of the Malay community.
Tengku Puteri Iman said she and her husband Tengku Abu Bakar Ahmad Tengku Arif Bendahara Tengku Abdullah were excited for their first child and hoped all would go well. – Bernama
