PETALING JAYA: Firemen are busy putting put out a fire at an illegal dumpsite near the Damansara–Puchong Expressway (LDP) toll.
According to a report by the Selangor Disaster Management Unit, the fire was caused by illegal burning of rubbish in Bandar Bukit Puchong 2.
It is learnt that the fire began Thursday (June 20) afternoon.
The Fire and Rescue Department is also working together with the Quick Response Team (Skuad Pantas) from the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) as well as relevant agencies.
A council spokesman, when contacted Friday (June 21), said "the situation is under control, our skuad pantas is providing assistance."
Subang Jaya Municipal Council councillor George Yap said it would take some time to remedy the situation because it was difficult to put out underground fire.
Meanwhile, Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han said he had received messages from a few parents whose children were studying at Taylor's International School in Bukit Puchong.
"They said haze and the smell of burning were very strong.
"After investigation, we found the old illegal dump site not far from the school was on fire. Unit Bencana Alam Negeri Selangor had responded immediately and are still working hard to put out the fire with various agencies such as Bomba and MPSepang," he said.
Earlier, in a Facebook post, Ng told parents that various agencies were working hard at the site to put out the fire.
