IPOH: Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu says he was not aware of a public voting session over the status of the Pasir Pinji market.

Ahmad Faizal said he will contact Pasir Pinji assemblyman Howard Lee Chuan How to get more information, adding however that it is the latter's right to make the call.

"Lee is like a brother to me. I believed that he is trying to create more engagement with the public.

"However, I will get in touch with Lee regarding the issue," he told reporters at the state Agriculture Development Corporation (PPPNP) Aidilfitri open house here on Thursday (June 20).

On June 17, Lee who is also state Youth, Sports and Human Capital Development Committee chairman, said the status of the Pasir Pinji market will be determined by public vote.

The current market that has been established since 60 years ago is facing several maintenance issues and lack of facilities such as car parking lots, collapsed walls and damaged roofs.

Ahmad Faizal said as Pasir Pinji assemblyman, Lee has the right to make the call though it is not a standard operating procedure.

"This is definitely not our standard of procedure. Until I am fully briefed about the move, I can't say if I agree with his decision or not," he added.

On a separate matter, Ahmad Faizal expressed his disappointment regarding the process of announcing the new Ipoh mayor.

"I wished I have the power to announce it but this matter is beyond my control. If it's up to me, I would like to have the mayor sworn in today," he said.

Ahmad Faizal also denies any rumours to change in the state Exco line up.

"As for now, there is no change in the line up. We have sent a letter to the Perak Ruler for approval over the swearing-in ceremony.

"We will be in touch with his office to get the date for the ceremony," he added.
