Man arrested for possession of air pistols he collects as a hobby

GEORGE TOWN: A 37-year-old man was arrested after being found in possession of three pistols and three small cartridges of CO2 air pistols among other illegal items.

Police uncovered the items at the suspect's house after first finding a ball bearing air pistol on the man at 5pm along Jalan Tun Dr Awang on Wednesday (June 19).

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt A. Anbalagan said the suspect was on a motorcycle when he was stopped and a body search was conducted, leading to the discovery of the item.

"The man then led police to his house in Bayan Baru and handed over the other items," he said on Thursday (June 20).

The items included a black gun labelled "PT-85 Blowback", a black gun labelled  "P. Bereta Made In Taiwan" and three small cartridges of CO2 air pistols labelled "WE".

In a green uncovered box, police also found a black gun labelled "Walter PPQ".

Police confiscated the items and the man is being remanded for four days to help with investigations.

Supt Anbalagan said the suspect, a house renovator, told police he collected the items as a hobby.

"The suspect had been arrested in the past for possession of air pistol.

"All the confiscated air pistols and ball bearing were purchased online," he added.
