Penang NGO shows support for Dr M, says to let him continue doing his job

GEORGE TOWN: An NGO in Penang is putting its support for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to continue his role as the prime minister until his term ends.

Pertubuhan Kebajikan Ihsan Muda Pulau Pinang president Muhd Arshad Abdul Rahman (pic) urged the people to show their support towards Dr Mahathir and not pester him for a leadership transition.

“We do not agree with Otai Reformasi, which is pressuring the prime minister to set a clear time frame to hand over the premiership to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“We should all work together to help the government in achieving its mission and vision in bringing Malaysia back on track,” he said in a press conference at Royale Chulan Penang Wednesday (June 19).

Muhd Arshad added that the issues that should be focused on are those related to the people such as the living standards, job opportunities and problems faced by youth today.

“The demands by the Otai Reformasi group will bring negative effects to the government and will cause a stir.

“Our group fully support Dr Mahathir as the prime minister for as long as he can or until his term ends.

“We hope that leaders and the people will give Dr Mahathir some time to resolve issues and regain the country’s economy status,” he said.

Earlier, Otai Reformasi, a veterans' group known to be fiercely loyal to Anwar, pressured the 93-year-old leader to give a specific date when he would hand him the reins as prime minister.

Also present were organisation's advisors Datuk Dr Ong Hean Tee and Datuk Mohd Sulaiman Hajah Mydin.
